EA shuts down BioWare studio and cancels Mass Effect 5
Parent company EA announced the closure of BioWare and confirmed layoffs across its studios earlier this week.

Studio confirms immediate shutdown
BioWare stated it will close after more than three decades of creating role-playing games. The legendary developer behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age said early development on the next game has ended. EA confirmed that roughly 50 roles at BioWare are among the total layoffs.
Industry reacts to news
Developers across the industry have called the decision unimaginable and heartbreaking. The studio noted it has been a home for storytellers and players for over 30 years. This restructuring involves 400 employees across EA studios.
