Atif Ikram urges joint Asia-Pacific strategy for textile growth
FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh called for a regional textile strategy during a webinar in Karachi on Friday.
Market expansion targets set
The global textile market is projected to grow from US$ 2.12 trillion in 2025 to US$ 4.27 trillion by 2035. The Asia-Pacific region holds around 53 percent of this global market and is expected to increase from US$ 1.14 trillion to US$ 2.33 trillion during the same period.
Employment figures highlighted
The textile sector currently employs around 100 million people worldwide. This number rises to approximately 430 million when the wider fashion and apparel sector is included in the count. The industry also contributes around 2 percent to the global GDP.
China export share noted
China alone accounts for around 32 percent of global textile exports. Atif Ikram presented Pakistan's perspective on regional integration while addressing representatives from 28 CACCI member chambers.
